As for number of buttons, that's just how the cookie crumbles, and you can handle it fine with a few minor remappings to get you in and out of ACM quickly. With my Logitech Extreme 3d Pro, i have more precise movement than falcon 4 will allow. Falcon4 is fine without a joystick for people who want to invest a small amount to buy the game, but not for an expensive joystick. Without the right combination of hardware, flight sims can be a frustrating experience. Vythonaut: Just what Strijkbout said: if you don't plan on buying a joystick (a HOTAS would be ideal but since it is usually an overkill due to the cost, a typical flight stick will do unless you get too passionate anyway), don't bother with F4/BMS. From there, one simply maps everything they want (Axis 3, specifically, is tied to the throttle), and the - and + keys on the keyboard will override the joy input as long as there is none (so you map the input axis to 2 keys you're not using and you can control whether it's set to 0 or a specific spot for a default value when you enter your airplane [normally set to 0 for ground, maybe 70% if you can't be bothered to take off). vJoy is also necessary, as it creates the virtual joystick that UCR creates. Apparently the UJR website says to use UCR instead, which is no biggy. If you can't rebind/disable the axis via the F4 configurationmenu you might want to try UJR (Universal Joystick Remapper) with Vjoy, but it's quite complicated to use, or if you only want to remap buttons you can use J2K.įor a joystick I can recommend you the Thrustmaster T.16000 which has a very good price quality balance.
The sticks on gamepads are springloaded so it's very inconvenient to use that for throttle, no matter what axis it is bound to. Strijkbout: If you're really serious about playing F4, do yourself a favour and get a joystick.
